The sky was the first thing to paint and I’m super pleased with how it turned out. The colour gradations have that airbrushed look, which was the goal, so vetoed the idea of putting in lots of clouds. With the focal point in the foreground, a cloud cluttered sky would have just competed with the landscape and the viewer’s eye would have nowhere to rest.

I enjoyed how the “Prairie Light” painting turned out so much, that I decided to do a continuation of the scene. What would the view be if you turned 45 degrees to your right? A little darker, things further away, but the light of home on the empty prairie to warm your heart on the ride home.

This painting makes me think of a late afternoon winter’s day. The sun is setting and the moon will rise, but both the sun and moon point to a brighter, greater light, the glory of God.

Revelation 21:23 “. . . The city had no need of the sun or of the moon to shine in it, for the glory of God illuminated it. The Lamb is its light.”

I loved playing with these colours so much! It was such fun to paint in this monochromatic style combining just 4 colours: yellow, pink, burnt sienna and white. The final results is a cozy landscape basking in the warm and hazy glow of the sun. Hope you feel the warmth!

A pair of late night skaters glide along the ice by moonlight. The only sound is the rhythm of their blades scraping across ice as they skim down the lake.

I enjoyed painting the previous monochromatic picture so much I decide to do another one. I added a couple of skaters to enjoy the moonlight.
