This was the first painting in the series, and was set to be the remake of the watercolour sea turtle in acrylic. Like the mythological Phoenix this painting reinvented itself and took on a life of it’s own. This was true free-form painting for me.

I started this painting with no real plan, other than maybe it might be a butterfly?? But that just never worked. The image took on more of a sinister look with the insect type body and thus became the Stinging Wasp. Love the big swooshing S-curve tail. Has it just stung its prey or it is just about to strike? You decide.

I just wanted to paint a jellyfish. The swirling of the jelly’s tail helped in creating that sense o f movement and motion I wanted to achieve.

This painting was actually first done in water colour on paper. I loved the mix of yellow, blue, and green which became the base palette for the collection. Somehow this ended up being the second and not the first completed painting in the series.
